Editing Cost Libraries

A Cost Library stores your own Cost Rates for Subcontracted work, Materials, Equipment, and Transportation. You can create multiple libraries and reuse them as ready-made Estimate templates. Editing a Cost Library works much like editing an Estimate.

Creating a Cost Library

  • Add the item name, unit cost, and markup to the Cost Library. You can also add a note, such as text or a link to a product page (1);
  • In the separate “Rounding” column, you can configure material quantity rounding. Rounding is applied when an Assembly is added to an estimate or when a linked Assembly is recalculated (2). For more information about item rounding, see Creating and Editing Assemblies;
  • Copy data from your spreadsheet into the Cost Library by clicking “Data import” (3);
  • Add an item manually using the “+ item” button (4);
  • Select the item type using the colored badge to the left of its name (5);
  • Reorder rows by dragging them up or down. To create a category, drag a row to the right (6);
  • You can create multiple Cost Libraries for different purposes. Store separate lists of Materials and Subcontract rates, or organize a library as an Estimate template and then add entire categories to an Estimate. You can create Cost Libraries from the left-hand menu in Smetter;
  • To set a library as default or access other options, click the three-dot icon next to its name in the left-hand menu.
Exporting Cost Libraries
  • Export a Cost Library by clicking “Export to Excel” (6);
  • When editing an Estimate, you can copy selected items to a Cost Library. Select the items, then click “Copy” > “Copy to library” in the bulk actions panel at the bottom of the screen. If you select an Assembly in the Estimate, it will also be copied to the Cost Library with its full structure preserved.

Result: all Cost Rates and templates are organized in Cost Libraries and can be quickly reused when creating Estimates.
