Omitted Items, Change Orders, and Substitutions

Smetter provides several tools for tracking changes made after work has started: marking work or materials as Omitted, creating Change Orders, and making substitutions in Edit Mode.

  • If the client decides not to proceed with a work or material item, select the item in Estimate Editor and choose Mark as Omitted. The item will be marked as Omitted and can no longer be completed or purchased;
  • To add work outside the original scope, click Change Orders in the Estimate Editor tab. Smetter creates a separate Change Order that can be managed in the same way as a regular Work Package. The total value of the Change Order is also shown for reference in the original Work Package. We recommend agreeing the scope and price of each Change Order with the client in advance to avoid disputes when the Project is completed;
  • To make other changes after work has started, such as replacing an item, use Edit Mode. To keep the client rates unchanged, enable Fix Client Rates.

Result: all changes remain under control and are visible to the entire team.
